Tracy Arm

This post is actually a little out of order. The day we were going to Juneau began with a trip through the Tracy Arm Fjord. A fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides, created in a valley carved by glacial activity. We were cruising through the fjord between 6 and 10 in the morning, so we woke up early and headed over to my parents balcony for a Glacier Watch Party. (Don't worry...we stopped at the international cafe for donuts and coffee first.)

As you can see, Eric was not a fan of waking up early on vacation, but in the end he was thankful he got up to see the gorgeous scenery.

Entering Tracy Arm
As we approached the glacier, there was a lot more ice in the water. It was cool to see but seemed difficult for the captain to try to avoid.
The little 'wing' on the side of the ship is part of the bridge, which is where the captain steers the ship. There was a naturalist on board who was giving us information about the area over the loudspeaker. Once we got closer to the glacier she was not allowed to talk on the microphone because of noise regulations.

The mist you see from bottom of the mountain is from the rushing waterfall on the mountain.

As we were exiting the Fjord, we passed another cruise ship coming into the Fjord. We all went to the top of the deck to wave and scream hello.

Eric entered two ping pong tournaments while on the ship. He didn't win though. :(
