Memorial Day Weekend

Christmas 2010 Eric and I did an Iron Chef Small Plate competition dinner for the Armstrong family. After that dinner, we decided it would be fun to do one as a family and everyone would have to prepare one course. After much planning, we decided Memorial Day 2012 would be the weekend and Basil would be the ingredient. The Armstrongs and the Noels arrived on Friday evening and Saturday began preparations for the battle. We rotated through the kitchen throughout the day for preparations and of course spent time hanging out, relaxing and eating donuts from a quick trip into Portland for some Voodoo Donuts.

Preparing the score sheets.

Kristen's dish: Watermelon, Mozzarella and basil caprese salad with a basil vinaigrette.

My dish: Basil and Goat cheese tart, Mozzarella Caprese with Basil infused olive oil and a fried basil leaf on top, Parmesan grilled cheese sticks with pesto dipping sauce and a sweet basil ricotta crostini with grilled apricots and honey.

Of course we forgot to take photos of the other dishes.
Norma's dish: Tomato and avocado salad in a grilled avocado with a side of basil butter and a breadstick
Dave's dish: BLT Bruschetta
Eric's dish: Basil and Bison Dolmas with a basil greek yogurt sauce
David's dish: Basil Molten Chocolate cakes with roasted pine nuts

And the runner up was: David
And the winner was: Eric!

Yay for Eric for winning his first Iron Chef competition. Up until now I have been the reigning champ! Don't worry, I will get my title back next time!! (This time I was more interested in eating the food than actually cooking....blame the babies :)
