I had a bit of a crisis last night. I made homemade salsa...which I do often and generally have no problems. This time I wanted to make it spicier, so I got 2
habanero peppers to add to the normal mixture. I cut them up and threw away the seeds and went on with making the salsa. About an hour after I finished making the salsa, I noticed that my hands were burning a bit. It continued to get worse until it felt like my hands were on fire! I looked online for a
remedy. Most of the
suggestions were to wear gloves when working with the peppers, but it was too late for that. So I found other suggestions and found many people online who had had the same problem and it lasted for 8-24 hours for some people! I had a horrible night. I tried several remedies with no avail before I went to sleep. I thought I wouldn't notice it if I slept, but it was burning so much I would sleep for about an hour, and the pain would wake me up. Crazy! I ended up getting about 6 hours of sleep off and on, but it was a horrible night!
Here are all the things that I tried:
-soap
- dawn
dishwashing soap
- shampoo
- lemon juice
- milk
-
Tylenol- baking soda paste
- waterless hand sanitizer
-acetone
-holding bags of ice (this worked the best...I slept with bags of ice)
-Aloe
Vera-Aloe
Vera with
lidocaine
Here is my advise to you....if you are using
Habanero peppers...WEAR GLOVES!!!

That is horrible. Was it gone by the morning? Are your hands still burning?
By about 5:30 they stopped burning and were just tender. I'm surprised that all the things I poured on my hands didn't hurt them more!
