The Name
Lots of people have been asking about how we came up with Titus' name, so we figured we would write the story. In deciding on a name for our boy, we realized a boy's name is hard to choose. It needs to be strong and something that is good for a boy, a teenager and ultimately a grown man. I really wanted something that had a possible nickname, as I am always wanting a nickname for Eric and I can't really shorten or lengthen his name. We really wanted something unique and wanted to avoid the common names. The more we discussed names the more we wanted something with meaning and possibly something biblical. We stumbled upon Titus and loved it. We loved the sound of it and how strong and masculine it sounded with Armstrong. We loved that it could be shortened to Ty if we want (or if he wants). We loved the history of Titus in the bible and how he was one of Paul's most faithful companions and one of the first pastors of the early church in Crete. We looked up the meaning of the name and found several: title of honor, pleasing, honorable, defender and the one that I chose to ignore...giant. Turns out, he had giant hands and feet when he was born, so maybe there's something to this naming thing... As for the middle names we wanted to honor our fathers by passing down their names, especially since both our dads have strong, biblical names. We decided that if we are blessed with two boys while we have children, we would like their middle names to be Mark and David. We couldn't decide which one would be named first so we decided that we would choose the name that went best with the first name that we chose. In this case, David seemed to go better with Titus, which is a great way to carry on the Armstrong name. Now, we hope for another boy at some point who will have the middle name Mark after my dad. We pray that Titus grows into his name and becomes someone like the Titus of the bible, a man who leads others in serving the Lord.
