Cross County Move

Last time we moved across the country, we were just in the car and traveled 5 days and 4 nights. This time, since we did not have a job to get to immediately and were driving a truck with a trailer, we decided to take our time. We planned the trip in 7 days, 6 nights. (My camera was dying and I packed the power cord, so I don't have a lot of pictures).

We spent the first night in Hammond, LA. We Pricelined all our hotels and had nice places to stay every night. The next day we drove to Dallas, Texas and stayed with our friends, Sarah and Coy. We were able to go to dinner with them and stay in their beautiful new home. The next day we drove to Amarillo, TX. We enjoyed BBQ at Rudy's thanks to Dustin's recommendation.

So when we left Florida, we were planning on driving to Salinas, where we would live near my parents while I worked for ERMCO (my Mom's non-profit organization) while we waited for paperwork to come through for Eric's job in San Diego. This seemed like the best plan because we had no idea how long it would take, but we thought it might take weeks or even months. This way we would have a place to live and also have some income. I kept saying that maybe we would get the call from UCSD that the paperwork went through while we were driving across Texas and then we would just change our route and drive directly to San Diego instead of Salinas. Well, the Lord answered our prayers, because in Amarillo, when we arrived at the hotel, Eric checked his e-mail and the offer letter was waiting for him. It was the exact amount of money that was verbally agreed upon, which was more than we expected in the first place, and his start date was on the 13th, which gave us just the right amount of time to get to San Diego and settle in a bit before he started. The Lord is good.

Friday we drove to Albuquerque, NM and stayed with Mark. His girlfriend was visiting from Florida for the weekend so we were glad to be able to spend time with her too. Mark took us to this great New Mexican food place with a beautiful view overlooking the city.

In the middle of the desert of New Mexico, I saw a sign for "The Blue Hole." We had no idea what it was, but I of course was curious. So we drove to see what it. It was as advertised, a blue hole. There were several people scuba diving it it. I guess there aren't many other places around there to scuba dive.

After New Mexico, we were on our way to Flagstaff, AZ. Mark and his girlfriend, Casey, decided to come with us and see the Grand Canyon as well. It was a little further from our hotel than we thought (about 85 miles), so it was a race to get there before the sun went down. We barely made it, but we did get a few nice views and pretty pictures.

From Arizona, we headed to Las Vegas (Vegas baby!). The day before, Jeff decided to fly out and meet us there. We enjoyed spending time with Jeff and having fun in Vegas. We stayed at Treasure Island and saw The Blue Man Group, a very weird but entertaining show, at the Venetian. Jeff flew out the next morning and we were on our way to our new home in San Diego! We arrived on Monday night and stayed in a beautiful Hyatt in Mission Bay (gotta love Priceline). The next day, we went to our potential apartment complex, signed a lease, dropped off the trailer that we didn't need anymore (thank goodness), unpacked everything from the truck in one day (because my husband is awesome and we had a little help from a local family friend), rented a storage unit, packed the storage unit pretty well, returned the truck, and slept in our new apartment that night. Crazy trip, crazy day.
