Spring Break 2009

I wanted to do something fun this year for Spring Break. Since Eric is working hard to graduate next year he couldn't take any time off. So my friend, Carrie (who is also a teacher and had the week off) and I decided to head to the beach. We had a hard time finding a hotel anywhere in Florida because it's spring break everywhere and Florida is of course a popular place to visit on Spring Break. We ended up getting a campsite on the beach in Panama City Beach which is about 4 hours northwest of us in the Panhandle. We were looking forward to spending time laying on the beach and relaxing. We were a little disappointed when the weather turned out to be in the 60's and WINDY! Our first night was spent huddled up in our tent afraid we were going to blow away because it was SO windy! In the morning we put our bathing suits on in hopes of the sun coming out. We spent about 2 hours laying out but most of that time was in a sweatshirt :)

This is a newer area of Panama City Beach.
We heard about this little donut shop that is supposed to be famous for their key lime donuts. They were out of them so we didn't get to try it, but their regular donuts were very good.
The double red flag indicates that the water is too dangerous to swim in.
Since it was too cold to layout all day. We decided to drive to Destin and stop at Seaside along the way. Seaside was the cutest little town! It was the town that was used in the movie The Truman Show. It was this darling town with little house and streets so tiny that you can only ride your bike.
There were little pavilions about a mile or so apart where you could walk to get to the beach. Each one was very different and unique.

Stairway to nowhere..... or heaven? :)
Seaside's little post office.

Driving back from Destin to our campsite we experienced a typical college spring break. Panama City Beach was COVERED with students on their spring break. As we drove through the town there were tons of students just walking the streets being stupid. Apparently Panama City Beach is THE place to go for spring break.

The day we left we decided to explore the beach at our campsite which was beautiful! It's known for all the shells.

These dunes were so cool. They looked like rocks that had been carved but really it was sand.
Look at all the 'shells' we found! :)
